A quiet start to the week on the racing front with just a couple of runners on the Flat before things get busier at the weekend with intended runners at Cartmel, Kelso, and possibly Uttoxeter.
Tonight, Book of Invasions gets his second outing on the Flat in the 1m2f novice on the all-weather at Newcastle with our stable apprentice Conner McCann once again taking the ride. Outpaced having…
We are delighted to have bought four horses so far at the Goffs UK sales; three store three year olds and a point to point mare.
Our Monday purchases both by Malinas, were joined on Tuesday by the strong grey French-bred Monochromix by Morandi out of Lunamix. He has been bought by Michael and Lady Jane Kaplan and having a dam line full of winners bodes well for the future.
We are reporting to you live from the Goffs UK Doncaster Spring Store Sale where Paul, Scu and I have spent the day scouring the sales grounds inspecting more than 100 stores with the aim of purchasing some of the best young talent on offer.
We covered a lot of ground and were delighted to pick up two exciting three-year-olds, both by Malinas, and therefore sharing their sire with our recent…
During the Covid lockdown we trialled some different working practices and having turned out our winter horses we have returned to one of our lockdown routines of splitting the staff into two teams. Working the horses first thing at each yard we then all turn to maintenance and disinfecting the yard. Pictured is the back yard at Arlary, painted and ready for the stables to be filled again.
Soft ground and some indifferent jumping rather hampered our chances of a winner at Perth this week, but there were still some promising performances, chief amongst them being the third placed finishes of Petite Rhapsody, Boy’s On Tour and Gripper on Thursday. Also finishing third yesterday was Izzy’s Champion, although in his case he inherited that position due to some late fallers and we’ll try…
We have two days of racing to look forward to at Perth this week with four runners on Wednesday evening and eight on Thursday afternoon.
This evening the first of our horses is Royal Reserve who makes his long-awaited return to action in the novice handicap chase in his new colours of Tay Valley Chasers. Off the course since the autumn of 2019, it is a big ask for him on chasing debut, but…
Today was a memorable day as Jaimie took One For Arthur, our Grand National hero of 2017 to his next home as he starts his active retirement with Stephanie and Charlie Robson. Steph is Olympic event rider Ian Stark's daughter, and she and her husband will introduce Arthur to eventing, hunting, and a top class family life as befits our champion. We are delighted that his owners, Belinda and Debs,…
It has been a week of ups and downs with some promising efforts at Ayr and Kelso overshadowed by the fatal fall of Mannochmore at Ayr. Only a six-year-old, he was just starting to show his true potential and looked set to follow up his recent win at Kelso when falling awkwardly at the second last and breaking his hind leg. It was devastating for the yard and for his owners Distillery Racing Club,…
We had our first runners of the new season at Hexham on Saturday with Speak of The Devil running a fine race to finish second behind a well-handicapped and well-backed winner. The omission of nine of the 19 fences worked against him with his effort deserving to be marked up as a result, and with him remaining in such good form, we will look to press on and target further races back at Hexham in…
With jump racing in Britain taking a brief hiatus following the season-ending Bet365 Gold Cup fixture at Sandown, it has been a flat-orientated week for the yard thus far. First up was a trip to Ayr for two runners on Monday with Aone Ally and Book of Invasions contesting a competitive 1m maiden.
Making his first start of the campaign and only the third of his career, Aone Ally ran a pleasing…
