It was great to get on the scoresheet at Perth yesterday courtesy of Clearly Crazy who showed a wonderfully willing attitude to land the opening mares’ novice hurdle on a day when all of our runners performed with credit. She is pictured leading at the last hurdle.
Third place finishes for Katalystic and Red Missile and a brilliant comeback second from Vengeur de Guye and Blair were just rewards for the hard work of the team at home and the day could have been even better had Petite Rhapsody not fallen at the second last in the final race. He was staying on well at the time and looked sure to be placed at the very least.
We have 8 runners today (!) as we aim to maintain momentum and are represented in each division of the 2m novice hurdle. Both Netywell and Hector Master showed promise in bumpers last season, but they are inexperienced four-year-olds who are likely to be all the better for this initial outing over hurdles.
Corach Rambler is an exciting chasing prospect for this season and he makes his first start over fences in the 2m4f novice handicap chase. A two-time winner over hurdles last winter, he has previous experience from his time in Irish points, but will probably find this trip a little short of his optimum in a small but select field.
Boy’s On Tour is perhaps our best chance of the day in the 2m4f handicap chase. He had been a little below his best prior to finishing a close fourth at the last Perth meeting and should be suited by dropping back in trip. He is potentially well handicapped and we’re hopeful he can go close as he seeks a rather remarkable fifth course and distance success.
Spark of Madness and Slainte Mhor return to action in the 2m handicap hurdle and 3m handicap chase respectively. Two lightly-raced individuals, both remain open to improvement this season but are expected to come on for the run this afternoon.
Finally, we are doubly represented in the closing 3m handicap hurdle. Southern Girl has been unable to build on her early promise but is dropping in the weights and should give any prospective backers a good run for their money, whilst Emirat de Catana is a previous course and distance winner who often performs well fresh. He is on a good mark and could surprise a few.
